Help for the Children of Haiti - A Quest to Boost Nutrition

When Thomas Easley's twin sister saw a news report featuring Aaron Jackson - CNN's 2007 Hero of the Year Award for Medicine recipient - and his crusade to deworm Haiti, she knew her brother had to get involved.  Jackson was looking for an alternative medicine specialist to help in his orphanages in Haiti.  In January 2008, Thomas went on his first trip to the Caribbean island nation.

Haiti is the least developed country in the Americas and among the most impoverished countries in the world.  An estimated 80 percent of the population lives in poverty, with an average income of just two dollars a day.  Its history is ripe with political corruption, foreign corporate influence and violence.  In addition to political and economic issues, Haiti suffers from environmental concerns.  In 1925, 60 percent of the land was covered in lush forest.  Today, 98 percent of the forest has been cut down.  Deforestation has led to erosion, which in turn has destroyed fertile farmland and contaminated the water and fish.

When Thomas arrived in Haiti, he was overwhelmed and sobered by the conditions there.  About 80 percent of Haitians have intestinal parasites that can steal 20 percent of the already meager ingested nutrition.

Thomas went to work caring for orphans in a newly created orphanage devoted to children with HIV.  He brought with him several nutritional products which provide more nutrition than most Haitians can ever hope to receive through the average diet.

Doing Something More

Since returning from Haiti, Thomas has started his own charity, Herbs for Orphans.  It is founded on the belief that good nutrition can positively affect physical and socioeconomic well-being.  Herbs for Orphans works with communities worldwide to promote nutrition for children.  Its board members include Thomas, Steven Horne, Phyllis D. Light and Dr. Hugo Rodier.

If you are interested in helping Herbs for Orphans, they would be happy to receive your support.  Nature For Life is accepting donations on behalf of Herbs for Orphans.

100% of donations will go to supplying nutritional
supplements and herbs for the Herbs for Orphans charity.
